PAINTINGS BY MEREDITH & KAYLAN

A kind of light spread out from her.
And everything changed color.
And the world opened out.
And the day was good to awaken to.
And there were no limits to anything.
And the people of the world were good and handsome.
And I was not afraid anymore.
— Steinbeck

In August, 2015, friends and artist's, Meredith and Kaylan Buteynembarked on a painting collaboration. Using the above Steinbeck poem as a compass, each artist, in their own studio with their own canvases of the same dimensions, began to interpret the words and lay down the first layer. Once the first layer was painted, they exchanged the paintings, and added another layer. This layer was the first for them to marry their marks together and on top of each other's work. They then exchanged the paintings again. They added another layer, then exchanged the paintings one last time. For the final layer and finishing touches they joined together in Meredith's studio in Nashville, TN.
